Groupe PSA has revealed its plans to bring the Citroen brand in India. The Citroen C5 Aircross SUV will be the first product for the Indian market and the French automaker will introduce other products by the end of 2021.
The C5 Aircross is based on Groupe PSA’s EMP2 platform. The Citroen C5 Aircross measures 4,500mm in length, 1,840mm in width, 1,670mm in height and 2,730mm in wheelbase length. It has a ground clearance of 230mm. In India, the Citroen C5 Aircross will only be offered with a single-engine option - a 130hp, 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It will be launched in the Indian market from 2020.[gallery size="full" ids="8261,8262"]The company will launch other models by the end of 2021. The new models will be at the core of the market’s needs. Fully in line with the framework of the PSA Group’s Core Model Strategy, these new models will follow its principles with, in particular, one launch per year. Called ‘C Cubed’, the programme is in line with Citroën’s positioning, with three Cs for Cool (referring to the design), Comfort (focus on the experience) and Clever (intelligent conception and high level of local integration).
A high level of local integration (over 90%) based on the two joint venture agreements between the PSA Group and CK Birla Group. All Groupe PSA models – including the Citroen C5 Aircross – will be manufactured at CK Birla’s facility in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, which also produces SUVs for Mitsubishi in India.
